The Bluebell Railway is the oldest standard gauge preserved passenger railway in the UK and we pride ourselves on being able to offer the very best experience for production companies.  Our stations are 'walk on sets' and for more than 50 years have been the backdrop for hundreds of feature films, TV dramas, fashion shoots and music videos.

We have a dedicated and experienced team to support filming activities, with personnel representing every railway department - filming liaison officers, locomotive crews, guards, shunters, signalmen, station staff, infrastructure and lineside staff.

Our filming team also have experience working off site at film studios and other locations such as main line stations on Network Rail.  We were able to take a locomotive in steam and with ten coaches to Kings Cross for station scenes filmed for 'Wonder Woman'.  We were also responsible for operational safety and supervised all train movements during the making of ‘Murder on the Orient Express' (2017) at Longcross studios.

Our fleet of heritage locomotives, carriages and freight vehicles are available for use and are capable of being disguised to represent almost any nationality or period. For the more discerning producer we can also provide an historical advisory service in all aspects associated with railway operations, equipment and architecture.

We have strong links with other museums and heritage railways throughout the country.  If we don't have exactly what you are looking for already on site - the chances are we can track it down and help build a complete package perfectly tailored to your needs.

This website has been arranged so that directors and producers can visualise potential locations which may be suitable for their productions - even before arranging a visit.  Numerous photographs of each station show particular details of historic railway architecture and interiors which will assist art directors in making decisions about settings which might match desired storylines. Locomotives shown are those currently available in steam and there is also a selection of  our most popular carriages which are often used in filming.
